This is because of the fact that the child has very less immunity when compared to the older people. As a child is young, it can commonly be suppressed due to various reasons and so the disease is exacerbated in the patient.</p>
<p>These are the two main reasons for the disease being common in children. Another reason for the child to suffer from eczema is that various allergens can also lead to the disease. Since kids are much more prone to allergies, they may suffer from the disease to a large extent. Avoiding these allergens will help to prevent the disease from occurring. This is especially true for the kids who have already been identified to be suffering from this problem. This is because even a small duration of exposure to the material that is allergic will cause the person to suffer a great deal. <p>As a dietitian, nutritionist, or nutrition teacher, you will be working in a variety of health places. This could be at a hospital, nursing home or at public schools. Here is information about having a career in public health nutrition.</p>
<p>Dietetics is someone that works as a health sector for both health and nutrition. It’s good to pick what field you want to work in because your main focus will be your clients and how they can live a much healthier life.</p>
<p>You’ll need a four-year degree plus a professional license in order to practice as a dietician. As a dietician you will be working to create a plan that will help your client’s body use nutrients and other foods in order live a healthier life. You will help them prevent having health problems like heart disease and obesity. You’re teaching your clients how to eat healthy and take care of their body.</p>
<p>According to reports, the normal annual salary would be around $50,590 as of May 2008. During the past decade roughly 5,600 new jobs opened up for nutritionists and dietitians.</p>
<p>As a dietetic technician you would work under a dietitian to help plan healthy meals to clients in hopes of preventing heart problems and encourage a healthier lifestyle for them. You could also teach the importance of nutrition and providing people with counseling. You would also keep track of what people are eating and drinking during each meal.</p>
<p>The annual salary in May 2008 was $26,080.</p>
<p>Working in public health could be a rewarding career since you’re making a difference in someone’s life. Just make sure you’re in the type of position you’re interested in being in.</p>

The sneaky, yet deadly illness tends to have an incubation period of  ten hours, to two days.  The virus prevents the human body from  absorbing water, creates severe diarrhea, thus creating havoc within the  organs, beginning with the kidneys, as a patient suffers from extreme  dehydration.  So why is this so important to know? because this illness  affects countless elderly in the United States every year.  The primary  age groups that are affected are children under the age of two, and the  elderly, with low immune systems, over the age of 65.  However, many  elderly do not want to discuss certain symptoms with their family or  doctors, due to embarrassment.<br />
The key to keeping the spread of Rotavirus at a minimum is regular  hand-washing.  This disease is spread through oral-fecal transactions,  just like common diarrhea.  The other hygiene effort that can keep  Rotavirus at bay is the common use of toilet seat covers in a public  restroom.  Both of these actions can eliminate countless cases of  life-threatening Rotavirus each year.  This is important to remember, as  a healthy adult can be a carrier of the virus, and never show a  symptom.<br />
If someone is attached by this illness, they will need medical attention  right away.  The main defense is IV fluids.  The IV can bypass the  absorption process, by directing much needed fluids right into the blood  stream.  Once the body begins to be rehydrated, the healing process can  begin, and the fight against Rotavirus becomes much easier for the  patient.  Depending on the length of the illness prior to seeking  medical treatment, a patient can expect to spend as much as a week in  the hospital before returning to their everyday life.</p>

Drinking plenty of fluids, eating healthy, and  maintaining an active lifestyle, are all factors that help keep our  kidneys working properly and strong. When you do not drink plenty of  liquids, you may be susceptible to kidney infections, or kidney stones.  Both of which are extremely painful, require medical attention, and can  have lasting effects. Not eating properly can also lead to Ketosis which  is an issue where the kidneys do not function well, and can lead to  extreme fatigue and discomfort, and worst case, a total failure. Long  term, if kidneys are not treated well, they can begin to shut down,  requiring, as a last resort, dialysis, and transplant, which can  drastically cut down on the quality of life of the patient, and be  catastrophically expensive.<br />
So, how do you prevent having kidney issues? Have the mindset that you  are going live a healthy lifestyle. Drink 64 ounces of water a day, so  that your kidneys can flush out impurities, and have a constant stream  of fluid so there is no build-up of plaque, calcium deposits that lead  to kidney stones. Have a healthy diet of fruits and vegetables, along  with the right amount of carbohydrates, this prevents Ketosis which is  highly fatiguing. And lastly, remain active. Our bodies were not  designed for a sedentary life-style, and remaining active, and  incorporating a good cardio work-out, allows for good circulation, and a  healthy constant motion keeps our organs working as they should.<br />
These life-style habits are not just good for your kidneys but for your  mind and entire body. By taking care of your kidneys, you are protecting  yourself from issues that can cut a quality life short. Take the steps  today to stay healthy, so that you can have many healthy tomorrows.</p>

The  reasons for needing a diet such as this is to help maintain blood  pressure, prevent bloating, and help to increase circulation. Having a  high sodium diet can also increase your risks for stroke, heart attack,  and can make losing weight a challenging and difficult task. Especially  when it seems like the food choices are not plentiful, and you have to  be proactive about reading every label.<br />
The thing to focus on when choosing foods that have a low sodium  content, is to use common sense. Ask yourself, &#8220;does it have a lot of  salt?&#8221; If the answer is yes, then that food choice is not low in sodium.  Not all low sodium foods need to be tasteless either. Fruits and  vegetables have no sodium, and are easily doctored with non-salt spices,  such as no salt spice mixes, and heart healthy no sodium butter. Beans  are also a fantastic low sodium food. They are easily mixed in with  other foods, providing a full and filling meal. Remember, steaming  vegetables always helps to lock in flavor, so that you do not need to  add anything in order to enjoy your meal.<br />
Depending on the health issue, you can also find cookbooks that offer  low to no sodium recipes. If you are just looking to cut down on the  amount of sodium in your diet, you can always just avoid particular  foods such as processed meats, or meats that have salty cures. Ham and  pepperoni are meats that have a particularly high salt content, which is  evident by the next day bloating, or the sense of feeling extremely  thirsty for the rest of the day. Some of the big tips in regulating  sodium intake is to just be conscious of what you are eating, and to  have healthy portions.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>I took a trip to Europe many years ago and as I walked the  streets of Paris I could not help but notice the absence of obesity. It  was rather surprising. I went with a group of 8 and within our small  group 3 of us could have been classified as obese. Yet I could scarcely  find one obese Parisian, I&#8217;m sure they exist but they were terribly hard  to find. Now I&#8217;m not suggesting we pass laws against obesity or make  the producers of food abide by certain laws as far as the amounts of  sugar and salt used in their products but I do see the problem.  Americans like to eat, in the land of plenty there is plenty to eat and  it calls for our attention 24 hours a day.</p>
<p>The good news is that many people are waking up and with the onset of  familial diseases such as diabetes and cancer people are making changes  to not only the way they eat but what they eat and why. Shows like &#8220;The  Biggest Looser&#8221; inspire millions to do something about obesity and give  practical examples of how and what to eat. Magazines are loaded with  glossy pictures of good food that are &#8220;low fat&#8221; constantly reminding  that there is a beast inside we all must control.</p>
<p>The New Year is approaching and many men and women will make resolutions  having to do with health, weight or nutrition. I believe this is a good  thing, that we are conscious of what ails us and deep down really do  want to make a change. Who knows how many of these resolutions will be  kept but at least we will be striving for something better and we will  all know that deep down we have what it takes to make it happen.</p>

<p>Ask any kid the purpose of Halloween, and you&#8217;ll get one of two answers: trick or treating or dressing up. Even if the kid says dressing up, you can bet the driving motivation behind that answer is a pillowcase or a plastic pumpkin full of candy. While it&#8217;s easy to let this philosophy slide because you&#8217;re talking to a kid, it&#8217;s important to remember to eat healthy during this holiday.</p>
<p>This is sound advice, even for adults who may be long past the heyday of getting free candy. Many snacks, such as pumpkin cake or roasted pumpkin seeds, sound healthy. Until you consider the truth about these choices. Most cakes are going to have sugar packed into them. Add frosting to the top, and you&#8217;ll double or triple sugar consumption.</p>
<p>What about pumpkin seeds? Some people have health reasons why they should avoid pumpkin seeds. From a nutritional point of view, a person can take a healthy treat and make it unhealthy by saturating the seeds in butter and layering on salt.</p>
<p>So what can you do to stay healthy with your eating habits during this holiday? Here are a few suggestions.</p>
<p>Celebrate the harvest festival. There&#8217;s nothing wrong with enjoying corn, pumpkins, squash, and other healthy vegetable options. Focusing on the harvest element may make it easier for you to put candy and sweet treats out of your mind.</p>
<p>Limit candy consumption. Your success with this may vary depending on where you are with your goals. Some people find it useful to put the candy in the fridge and have one piece a week. If you do this right, you can have an after-dinner dessert for months to come. Others limit candy consumption to one piece each day.</p>
<p>Look for healthy alternatives to processed sugars. Natural sugar often gives kids the sugar high they want without the added calories. Plus, treats like 100 percent juice boxes fulfill one fruit serving for the day.</p>

HIV positive patient in Berlin received a stem  cell transplant in 2007 after suffering in his health due to leukemia.  His doctors unveiled their findings that suggests a cure for the HIV  infection has been found. Many believe this could pave the way for a  cure using genetically engineered stem cells.</p>
<p>However many stop short of calling the doctors&#8217; research a medical  miracle. While it is a &#8220;very good sign&#8221; according to Nobel Prize winning  researchers many admit that it may be a fluke. At any rate though not  calling it a cure those in the field believe a cure is on the horizon.  Patients used to anti-retroviral medicine are waiting for this  breakthrough and wondering if it will ever come. Till then, journalists  and those in the media should not be lax in their coverage. There was a  time when Aids awareness was more than a teaching about &#8220;diversity&#8221; We  need to be seriously reminded of the causes and effects of Aids and HIV.  Young people must be made aware of the risks of their sexual choices.</p>
<p>The fight against Aids is definitely about finding a cure but it should  also be about giving this disease the attention it needs through the  media. It&#8217;s one thing to lament the spread of Aids and the millions of  deaths but then quite another to address the risky sexual practices of  our populations. Teenagers especially receive conflicting messages  through television programs, movies and music that encourage them to do  what they feel like without thought of precaution and then receive  condoms from their school as the highest form of sexual responsibility.  If we are going to win this fight then the media must realize their  responsibility as well. This is a fight that can be won but everyone  including the media must play a part.</p>

Everything looks good and the packaging makes sure to  display positive facts such as &#8220;less sodium&#8221; or &#8220;more fiber&#8221;. How can an  average everyday shopper know which cereal bars are truly healthy?</p>
<p>The first step is to look for the ingredients that you want to avoid. If  you are really going for the health aspect and not necessarily what  your taste buds crave, avoid sugars and bars coated with chocolate.  Cereal bars like most things these days are notorious for having long  lists of ingredients. The less ingredients there are the better the bar  and the more natural the ingredients. The second step is to look for the  ingredients that you want. Real fruit, whole grains, fiber, nuts. These  ingredients will do a lot more for a body health wise than those loaded  with additives, sugars and fats. Certain cereal bars with these  ingredients may taste good and trick the mind into believing the body is  better off with a small snack but in actuality they are loaded with  things we could all do without.</p>
<p>If all of this is still too confusing making tasty, nutritional snack  bars at home is a very good option. There are tons of easy and  interesting recipes to try on the internet. This way health conscious  snackers can get the taste they crave and save a little money as well.  If nutrition conscious shoppers are going to choose a cereal bar as a  breakfast alternative why not be sure to choose something with whole  grains, limited sugar and real fruit. It&#8217;s simple but simple things are  where the battle is won.  Happy snacking!</p>

<p>In the United States, certain areas are more prone to certain pests than others. Typically, areas with forests and longer grasses have a higher risk of ticks than hot dessert climates. Areas with large wildlife populations can increase this risk as well. This might not be a problem if ticks didn&#8217;t carry and transfer Lyme disease to humans.</p>
<p>Lyme disease can impair the nervous system, making it so a person can&#8217;t even walk. In its worst state, it can kill. Because of the health risks, it is important for people to take precautions to help reduce the possibility of getting bit by a tick.</p>
<p>People who have dogs or cats should be using some type of over-the-counter treatment to kill ticks. These topical medications usually kill ticks for up to one month&#8217;s time. You can find the medication for different weights and animals. You can also keep your animal&#8217;s hair trimmed. Shorter hair makes it more difficult for ticks to stick on the animal as it passes nearby.</p>
<p>Adults should check themselves for any ticks when they return indoors. It&#8217;s also important to check younger children. Wearing long-sleeved shirts, long pants, and socks can reduce the chances of getting a tick.</p>
<p>In some cases, these tips are enough to keep you and your loved ones tick free. However, it is possible for an infestation to occur. When this happens, preventative measure become less effective. Sometimes, it takes the state or the government jumping in to help with a problem.</p>
<p>Just as certain areas treat for mosquitoes every year, your area can treat for ticks. This will typically include spraying a pesticide over the infested area and repeating treatment as needed.</p>
<p>If you take preventive measures and the ticks keep coming back, it may be time for you to try a new route. Contact your local authorities to see what they can do.</p>

<p>Have you ever stood in the aisle at a supermarket juggling your groceries and trying to check the nutrition labels on products to help you make smart choices on your food selection? If you&#8217;re one of the many moms trying to shop while juggling a kid or two, you know how much this can complicate the matter. After all, it&#8217;s not exactly easy to read nutrition labels in the first place, let alone when a child is tugging on one arm.</p>
<p>As America begins to make strides toward reducing the obesity rate in the country, nutrition labels are back in the news. So, what&#8217;s the problem with food labels? For starters, food companies generally follow a set formula for what to include, but they don&#8217;t always include the information the same way.</p>
<p>If you pick up two cans of peas from different manufacturers, you&#8217;re liable to see similar ingredients. But, one might include several trace ingredients in one category, while another lists all the ingredients out. That&#8217;s only one difference. Then you have to look and see how many servings the chart uses, as well as the number of calories the company uses to base its food nutrition on. These can all vary from person to person.</p>
<p>Many people want to take charge of their health and eating habits but find it too much of a hassle to wade through food labels. Because of this, watchdog organizations that focus on nutrition have been working to get food companies to make changes.</p>
<p>Finally, their efforts are bearing fruit. Two leading food companies, the Food Marketing Institute and Grocery Manufacturers Association, have agreed to make changes to food labels beginning in 2011. The revisions to food labels will fall under an initiative for straightforward nutrition information.</p>
<p>Shoppers can only hope the changes will help make it easier to decipher the statistics on the back of food packaging.</p>

<p>Mental health problems can affect any person at any age regardless of gender, race, or social bracket. In most countries, treatment options for these conditions have continued to improve as researchers learn more about the conditions through study. However, the mental health treatments in Palestine are raising red flags with health watchdogs across several countries.</p>
<p>When a Palestinian has a mental health condition, the treatment options often include medications that research has proven to be ineffective. The country even uses electroshock to treat certain conditions. In a place where 33 percent of the population may be suffering from one type of mental health condition or another, this is a major problem.</p>
<p>The citizens in Palestine have such a high risk of developing a mental health problem in part because of the high level of trauma they can face from childhood through adulthood. Things that can elevate the risk factor include war, restricted movement, poverty, recurring humiliation, evictions, and imprisonment. Many people in the country suffer these things on a daily basis.</p>
<p>Acute and chronic stress can develop, further increasing the risk of mental disorders. Even if these don&#8217;t develop into anxiety or depression, the constant strain on the body can cause other health problems.</p>
<p>Adding to the problem is the stigmata surrounding mental health issues. Many people don&#8217;t want to seek treatment options because the local society still frowns upon them. The lack of health care options for these people often leads family members to become caregivers. Still, this can be a challenge for those without professional training.</p>
<p>Until the country overcomes its stigmata for mental health problems and updates the treatment options for these conditions, individuals will continue to suffer with problems they could handle with medication. Of course, it would also help the country as a whole to reduce the other factors contributing to the problem. With more watchdog organizations getting involved, many hope the situation will improve.</p>

<p>Brain like all the other parts of the human body begins to wither away after a certain age. It is quite difficult to completely stop this natural phenomenon since anything that is born has to get old and die. But what can be done is to keep this natural process under check form uncontrolled aging. An aging brain is not something that you should look forward to since this will cause you to loose your skills, complete memory loss and overall dearth in cognitive skills. Our body&#8217;s natural defense system can fight against these aging process but it requires many vital nutrients to stay put in the face of old age.</p>
<p>Antioxidant are like water of eternal youth. Thorough the body these antioxidants scavenge the different cells and get rid of free radical oxygen scavengers. Some of the known and most effective antioxidants are Vitamin C and E, Beta Carotens, lutein, zeaxanthin, cathechins, lucopene, etc. These can be obtained from fruits and green vegetables like grapes, blue berries, and green seeds. Wine has many valuable anti oxidants, that is why French people do not have brain related powers in old age. Sunflower oil, liver,  green tea extracts, wheat germ and nuts are excellent sources of anti oxidants that help in fighting the aging brain. Lycopene can be found in vegetables such as tomatoes. More specifically tomato ketchup and cooked tomatoes are better sources of lycopene. Polyphenols are found in green tea and along with this anti oxidant it has many other valuable brain enhancing substances. Isoflavones can be found in soy seeds. Isoflavones are excellent sources of anti oxidants that balance the intensity of oestrogen. Almost all the vitamins are important for the normal functioning of the brain. Hence make sure you supply these nutrients in abundant quantities if you hade being old. Who doesn&#8217;t?</p>

<p>Can eating a red fruit on a daily basis actually keep a physician away? Research shows that eating the wrong types of food can contribute to all kinds of terrible health conditions, including diabetes, cardiovascular problems, and obesity. So, why wouldn&#8217;t eating better food act as a kind of medicine in and of itself?</p>
<p>That&#8217;s the philosophy of some of the leading food manufacturers in America. Corporations like Nestle are looking for ways to market to people who want to blend health with medicine. To that end, Nestle has formed the Nestle Institute of Health Science and the Nestle Science S.A. The goal of these departments will be to focus on finding ways to treat various health issues.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s too early to tell what type of products Nestle will develop or what type of benefits, if any, the food might have. Some also wonder whether this move is worth the risk. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has been working to investigate unsubstantiated claims from companies selling miracle foods.</p>
<p>Some companies are able to make bold health claims because their products fall under natural categories. Items such as vitamins and herbs can use labels touting health benefits, as long as they include a disclaimer that says the FDA has not approved of the claims. Depending on the exact situation, though, the FDA is able to sue manufacturers for false advertising.</p>
<p>As a case in point, the FDA recently brought a lawsuit against the couple who own and sell POM Wonderful. The pomegranate juice claims to help with a variety of conditions, including erectile dysfunction, cardiovascular disease, and diabetes. Other products to face lawsuits have claimed to treat Alzheimer&#8217;s, diabetes, and other serious medical conditions.</p>
<p>If Nestle wants to succeed as selling its food as medicine, it should prepare to go through the same steps as any other pharmaceutical company. Just because the packaging is fruit instead of a capsule doesn&#8217;t change the role of a medication.</p>

<p>Many people believe kids are picky eaters and that trying to get them to eat fresh fruits and vegetables is akin to waging a war. But as more schools adopt healthier menus, parents are learning this old adage may not be true.</p>
<p>Just ask students at elementary schools throughout Arizona, and they&#8217;ll tell you what their favorite fruit is. Lunchroom choices include oranges, kiwis, watermelon, and strawberries. Students can find these fruits on the salad bar.</p>
<p>As a gymnast, sixth-grade student Sarai Meza likes the option of fresh fruit. She feels it makes her smarter and provides her with the energy she needs to get through three hours of practice each night.</p>
<p>While part of the new options stem from schools wanting to provide students with good nutrition, another aspect is motivation from the US Department of Agriculture, which hosts the HealthierUS School Challenge. To date, only 875 schools across the nation have met the standards set forth in the challenge, and two of those schools are in Arizona.</p>
<p>According to statistics from the US Department of Health and Human Services, over 30 percent of children between the ages of 10 and 17 in Arizona fall are overweight. Improving nutrition in schools may be a key contributor to reduce this number.</p>
<p>As part of the challenge, schools receive cash incentive prizes ranging from $500 to $2,000. Schools can earn recognition at four levels ranging from bronze to gold with distinction. Lake Valley Elementary School won silver recognition, while Washington Elementary won gold.</p>
<p>The change in the nutrition program at schools has an added benefit. It takes the focus off individuals. Instead of trying to change one person&#8217;s habits, it aims to create a healthier environment for all students.</p>
<p>As more students and parents become aware of the benefits of a healthy environment, especially when it comes to nutrition, Arizona may see the obesity rate begin to drop and the overall health of its kids increase.</p>

<p>The importance of nutrition is so much that it is the most important thing that you should consider. God health is a product of good nutrition. Your eating patterns will determine your lifespan, your health future, and how physically fit your re. If you are falling ill always, you can blame it on a variety of factors.</p>
<p>The nutrients that are required by your body are proteins, carbohydrates, fat, and water. All these are essential nutrients that your body needs always. If your diet is well balanced with all these nutrients then you have a diet that is rich in nutrition.</p>
<p>Carbohydrates are energy giving substances. When they are taken into the body, they are broken down and stored in the liver. They are easy to digest as well. Carbohydrates are the main source of energy for your body.</p>
<p>Proteins on the other hand are more of building blocks. They build bodily tissues. They are the chief agents of growth and repair. They aid in creation of new muscles, and growth of other parts of the body. Proteins make people grow. Children, who have a lack of protein in their diet, grow up shorter than the ones that had higher protein levels in their diet.</p>
<p>Fats are also essential for your body. Fats can build your immune system, and help you fight against diseases. They also are a source of energy, and can act as a complement to carbohydrates. They assist in absorbing calcium into the body. Without which, absorbing calcium would have been a problem for the body. And the bones of the body rely so much on calcium.</p>
<p>Water is a regulator of your body. It regulates the body’s temperature. It flushes out the toxins from the body, and ensures that your blood stream is without any infections.</p>
<p>So all these nutrients are essential in the sphere of nutrition. If your diet has all of these things, then you are on the way to good nutrition.</p>

<p>Nutrition is a science. It is a health science. IT deals with the information and knowledge about the constitution of various types of food products. It informs people about good nutrition habits, and what are not good for the body. Nutrition requirements of people have already been determined by nutrition experts. It is no longer a thing of mystery and calculation.</p>
<p>If you belong to a particular age group, race, and if you have a particular body mass index, then your nutrition levels or needs are also pre-determined. Although it may or may not be known to you, you can always check with your doctor who will have a better idea of this.</p>
<p>Before understanding nutrition, let us understand what food is. Food is the building block of energy. It provides nutrition to the body, and helps the bodily activities of the body to take place normally. Food provides the body the necessary raw materials that are required for the body to maintain the tissues and organs of the body.</p>
<p>Good nutrition is directly proportional to the kind of diet you have. It has to have the capability to support all the bodies’ needs. It has to provide all the nutrients that the body requires. A balanced diet is fit to be called a nutritious diet or a diet that is rich in nutrition if it provides the desired energy levels.</p>
<p>Energy levels imply not just the energy that you require to move around, but also what your cells need to do its activities. Your cells don’t have a battery attached to it. You need to charge it up and make it work. You can do it by providing it with the required nutrients. And this is called nutrition.</p>
<p>Nutrition is the answer to all ailments. It is the key to promoting a state of robust health. After all good health is the best fortune one can have. Health is wealth. And nutrition is the jewel.</p>

<p>There are a lot of people out there who put off getting the medical care  they need, simply because they are afraid that they are not going to be  able to afford it. If you are of a low income status, you may qualify  for medical assistance through your state government assistance office.  Many states now have low cost medical insurance plans for those who make  too much for the free health care but who are unable to pay the high  costs of standard plans. This is something your state department can  help you with.</p>
<p>If none of those options work, you will have to look into other options.  There are some doctors offices that will bill you for services or that  will charge according to a sliding scale. This means that they will take  your income and number of people in your family into consideration. You  could find yourself having to pay only half, or maybe even less, than  what you would normally pay for medical services. In some cities, there  are free clinics that you could take advantage of.</p>
<p>For those who are eligible for medical through their employer, you will  want to make you are taking advantage of it. Even if it is a hundred  dollars a month, the investment is well worth it. If you feel that it is  still not something that you can afford, you might simply need to take  another look at the expenses you currently have. Stop your cable  television service. Stop eating out so often. Start taking your lunch to  work instead of ordering out. There are probably a few changes you  could make in order to make sure that you can afford health care.</p>
<p>In the mean time, while you are sorting all of this out, if you are  having serious pains, you might want to make your way into an emergency  room. There could be something going wrong that cannot wait for your  next payday or for paperwork to be completed. Just make sure that no  matter what you do, you are keeping yourself healthy.</p>

<p>Children seem to always make it to the doctor. Good parents would never  put off a doctors appointment for their child. The thing is however,  many of those good parents end up neglecting their own health. Even if  the children are being properly cared for, if the parents are ignoring  their own health, they are putting the future of their children at risk.  After all, what would happen if you become terminally ill because of  your lack of regard for your own health?</p>
<p>Even if you do not have children, there are probably a lot of people  that count on you or who would be lost without you. To take it from a  different perspective, your parents might just be offended if you fail  to take care of yourself. Remember, they brought you into this world and  broke their backs to take care of you all of those years.</p>
<p>Whenever you are experiencing any problem that is outside the realm of  &#8220;normal&#8221; for you, it is important to make sure that you are seeking the  advice of a trained professional in the medical field. You might find  that the nurse practitioner is all you need. It could be just the flu.  However, it could be pneumonia and you can die from that.</p>
<p>If you are not feeling ill, you still want to make sure that you are  doing everything in your power to make sure that you are getting regular  check ups. With regular check ups, your doctor will be able to spot  problems before they get out of hand. Your doctor could help you change  something, should it be suspected that you are on the verge of a  problem.</p>
<p>Those who seek the help of doctors and who have regular checkups, are  much healthier than those who don&#8217;t. All you have to ask yourself is  whether or not you would like to live for a long time and how healthy  would you like to be during your final years.</p>

<p>The signs and symptoms of depression can be subtle or explosive. This is  what makes it so difficult for people. You might be slipping into a  depression and not even realize it. Sure, you might just feel &#8220;down in  the dumps&#8221;, but if this feeling is persisting after a couple of months,  you are most likely suffering from one form of depression or another.</p>
<p>Depression can come on out of no where. Sometimes it can be linked to an  emotionally traumatic event. Other times, it is simply something that  runs in the family. Even if no one in your family has been hospitalized  or has taken medication for depression, it does not mean that it doesn&#8217;t  run in the family. All that might mean is that it was never diagnosed.</p>
<p>Some common signs of depression are sudden weight loss or weight gain,  sleeping too much or too little, suicidal thoughts, thoughts about  hurting others, extreme anger, crying fits and a simple feeling of not  caring about the future. If you feel that you are simply going through  the motions of life, you may have depression.</p>
<p>If depression is left untreated, it could get worse. That is not  something that you want to have happen. Make sure that you are talking  to friends or family about what you are going through. This way, they  can be more supportive and understanding of your situation. The next  thing to do is to make sure that you are seeking professional help.</p>
<p>There are many ways to seek help. You can talk with your family doctor  and usually a mild form of an anti-depressant can be prescribed to you.  You can talk to a therapist and you will eventually be referred to a  psychiatry professional for medication.</p>
<p>However, if at any time you feel as though things are too much to bare  or you are having thoughts of harming yourself or someone else, you are  going to need to go to the emergency room. Check yourself into the  mental health ward and seek immediate help.</p>

<p>It is extremely important to learn the medical history of your family.  When you do this, you will not only be able to protect yourself but your  future children as well. For example, two healthy people could get  married but if the two of them both carry a certain gene, they could end  up with children with severe medical conditions.</p>
<p>Then there are the simple things you want to be aware of. If diabetes  runs in your family, then you want to be extra careful to make sure that  you are watching your weight and what you eat. You also want to make  sure that you are getting enough exercise.</p>
<p>For those who have cancer in the family, avoiding prolonged exposure to  the sun and avoiding cigarette smoke is best. While you might not be  able to avoid certain medical conditions, making simple changes to your  lifestyle can help better your odds of leading a healthy and productive  life.</p>
<p>A lot of the information you need can be found by talking with family.  Your parents might know a good bit of information about their parents  and grandparents. This way, when the doctor asks you about medical  conditions or diseases that run in the family, you will know what to  say.</p>
<p>Besides being able to actively reduce your chances of getting the  medical problems your family suffered from, your doctor needs to know  your family history. The only way for him to know this is for you to  inform him. This way, he can be on the lookout for signs and symptoms of  diseases or conditions that run in your family line.</p>
<p>The more you know about your medical history and the medical history of  your loved ones, the easier it will be to take care of yourself. You  will be able to pass this information on to your children and  grandchildren so that they are informed as well.</p>

<p>A balanced diet comprising of a mix of healthy food promotes good well being. Because what we eat shows up. Healthy food promotes well being and an unhealthy diet produces diseases. It is as simple as that. Certain food contains nutrients that are vital for well being. It aids the metabolic activity of the body. But when these nutrients are taken less, then toxins start to build up in the body. And toxins start to do all wrong things to the body.</p>
<p>When a diet that is rich in nutrition is eaten every day, an optimal body mass index can be maintained. A body mass index that is well within the limits is essential for prevention of cardiovascular diseases. Diseases are most often than not produced as a result of poor diet and lifestyle. It will be helpful, to have a chart that puts down all your nutrition needs for the week. You can take the help of a doctor to setup a chart that provides details regarding nutrition.</p>
<p>When the food that you eat has a lot of unhealthy fat, and you eat it regularly, then rest assured you have the possibility of getting heart disease. The best way to go about it is to decrease eating fatty food. Don’t eat fried food. Even if you do; exercise moderation. You have to take in food that is rich in fiber. Fibrous food will make your body burn calories while digesting them.</p>
<p>Raw fruits and raw vegetables are advised for people with heart problems. Even if eating raw is not that great an idea, raw fruit and vegetables have unbroken protein chains, and are high in fiber. When they are cooked they might lose some of their protein content, and it might not be as effective as eating them raw. So healthy food is the best bet for winning the war against disease. Half your problems will be solved if you can have a healthy diet.</p>

<p>Not many women enter into their pregnancy thinking about the postpartum  depression that could be awaiting them. However, anywhere from 30 to 80  percent of new mothers will end up what is often times referred to as  the&#8221;baby blues&#8221;. This is typically a mild form of the depression  and within a matter of days, it will normally resolve itself. Generally,  the symptoms include anxiety, sadness, insomnia, moodiness and fatigue.</p>
<p>The thing is though, about 10 percent of new mothers will end up with  major depression. This depression can start right after having the baby  or it could strike anytime within the first year of the child&#8217;s life.  Some of the symptoms include profound sadness, poor concentration,  intense crying spells, thought of suicide and feelings of inadequacy. In  extreme cases, new mothers have been known to harm themselves or the  children around them.</p>
<p>It is important to make sure that you are prepared for the possibility  of the onset of postpartum depression. This way, you will realize that  what you are feeling is not really you, it is the depression and you can  seek medical attention. If you have a loved one that is pregnant, it is  important to make sure that you are learning as much as you can about  postpartum depression. This way, you will be able to spot the signs and  symptoms in case the new mother does not.</p>
<p>Know that with the right treatment and a little patience, postpartum  depression is something that you will be able to beat. A combination of  therapy, support from friends and family and medication might just be  what you need. Make sure that you are taking care of yourself and as a  new mother suffering from depression, it is essential to make sure that  you are getting as healthy as possible.</p>

<p>It still seems that there are a lot of people who tend to think that  depression is not something you openly talk about with other people. You  need to remember something. This is not a condition that you need to be  embarrassed about. You did not cause it. However, you are the person  that can get rid of it or at least get the symptoms under control. Of  course, you are going to need a little outside help for that.</p>
<p>If your depression is mild, you have some time to play about with home  remedies and therapy, without the use of medication. There are a lot of  self help books and church leaders that may have some great tips and  advice for you. Now, if you are using herbal remedies or over the  counter medications, you want to make sure that they are not going to  interact badly with any medication that you are already taking.</p>
<p>For those who are suffering from severe depression, it is important to  make sure that quick medical attention is sought. You have the choice of  contacting a primary care doctor and setting an appointment or you can  go directly to the emergency room and check yourself in to the mental  health ward. The route you take should depend on how bad your symptoms  are. If you have had or are currently having thoughts of suicide, then  you want to go directly to the emergency room. Call 911 if you have to.</p>
<p>The sooner you get help for the depression, the sooner you will feel  like you are your old self again. If you do end up with medication, make  sure that you are taking it responsibly. The last thing you want to do  is to mess with your body or chemical balances any more. Also, do not  worry about the medication or how long you will have to be on it. Some  will be on medication for only a few months while others need a few  years. Everyone is different.</p>

<p>There is no particular food group that can answer the body’ nutrition needs a whole. You need to mix and match all type of food to achieve it. It might be a little confusing initially, but that’s the way it is. Only a variety of food that is combined to produce a balancing effect works. Nutrition mandates the need to include all kinds of food groups in equal proportions to form a balanced diet.</p>
<p>Looking at food groups, there are some chief food groups. Fruits, vegetables, cereals and pulses, dairy products, poultry and meat products are the different kinds of food groups. Obviously it is not possible to only include a particular type of food group in the diet. Nutrition mandates the inclusion of all type of food groups in the diet, to achieve a balance in nutrition.</p>
<p>Therefore a diet that comprises the use of all these groups of food can be called health food. By including all the components of food groups, you can ensure that your body gets the required nutrition needs. This includes vitamins, proteins, and minerals. Your body will also get the essential fibers that are required for nutrition.</p>
<p>Now the amount of servings under each food group depends on various factors. Age is a very important determinant for analyzing the amount of food required under a food group type. As the body ages, its nutrition needs become a little different than when it was young. The poultry and meat product food group literally become very less for people who have crossed a particular age. This is because the amount of fat that this food group has might not be extinguished by the body, than when it was younger.</p>
<p>When you mix and match your diet including all the components of food groups you will have an interesting diet, full of nutrition. This is much better than having a boring and repetitive diet, with only one kind of food.</p>

<p>Losing weight can be a problem. If your diet is less in nutrition and more on fat, then whatever exercise you do goes down the drain. It is of no point exercising if you still indulge in food that washes away any effects of exercise. If your exercise is combined with a balanced diet that is high on nutrition essentials, then you can expect results to happen.</p>
<p>Problems with obesity have been a common problem. Rising levels of obesity can be attributed to an unhealthy and sedentary lifestyle. Eating habits that are irregular and lack balanced nutrition contribute more to fat storage in the body. As the world progresses obesity is rising.</p>
<p>We really gawk at people who have fabulous bodies. When they are splashed all across papers, it is a thing of achievement for us. Obviously it is a great feat. But obesity is more of a modern problem than it was some decades ago or even a century ago. That time even though people did not know much about nutrition and health food, they didn’t have technology to make them lazy. In the modern era, technology had made people lazy instead of making them efficient. Imagine this, even fat burning has machines. All you need to do is wear a belt, and the belt vibrates and generates heat, and melts your fat. Is this not technology making people lazy?</p>
<p>Therefore no crash diets will help unless you get up and start exercising. Exercising is the best way to lose weight. Crash diets may crash your weight, but it can crash you as well. By regularly swinging your health with crash diets, you can do your metabolic system some serious harm. Consistency is the key. If you are on a crash diet, then don’t take to unhealthy food after coming out of it.</p>
<p>If you do take to unhealthy food, then your efforts to lead yourself into getting good nutrition and less fat will go wasted.</p>

<p>Weight loss can be indeed achieved with a diet that is well balanced and full of nutrition. Losing weight through diet is a gradual process, and not a short-term one. You should never do crash diets, unless if you feel it can do no harm to your body. Crash diets are restrictive, and can prove to be counterproductive if you overdo it. It can cause ulcer problems, and might even lead to muscle atrophy.</p>
<p>Before understanding how it works, you have to work with your doctor to identify what nutrition you need. If you’re already obese, then you can’t have a chart of an athlete. You might want it, but not now. And also you can’t have a drastic reduction in food. If you do so, the rebound effect might take its toll on you. In other words instead of eating les, you might end up eating more.</p>
<p>Once you set up a diet chart, try to follow it zeal and fervor. Let I dictate you and dominate you. Your willpower is crucial. <p>Besides being extra tired throughout the day, there is a lot of physical  harm that can be the result of not getting enough sleep. On the other  hand, too much sleep is not going to do you much good either. Simply  put, you need to make sure that you are getting just the right amount of  sleep every night. This will help you make sure that you are remaining  as healthy as possible and that you will live a very long life.</p>
<p>Even though some might laugh at the thought, there is evidence that  shows that a lack of sleep can eventually lead to a premature death.  According to many researchers, those who get less than five hours of  sleep a night have a 24 percent higher chance of developing diabetes.  People who sleep more than nine hours a night on a regular basis have a  48 percent higher risk of developing this disease.</p>
<p>While some might think that over sleeping is what is more likely to lead  someone to become obese, it is actually those who sleep less than five  hours on average that have a bigger chance of becoming obese. Since  there are obviously a lot of medical problems that are associated with a  lack of sleep, it is important to make sure that you are getting  enough.</p>
<p>It is suggested that even as an adult, you should try to get eight hours  of sleep a night. This might mean that you have to go to bed earlier.  If you find that you have trouble falling asleep, you will want to avoid  caffeine after the afternoon hours, avoid sugary foods and make sure  that you are reading a good book before bed. Many people find that if  they read, they end up falling right to sleep after a long day.</p>

<p>There are cases where diabetes cannot be avoided, no matter how young or  healthy you are. However, most of the cases of this disease is from a  direct lack of proper nutrition and exercise. This is a disease that can  be prevented and it is also one that you can control if you end up with  it.</p>
<p>To start with, you will want to cut back on your sugar intake. This  means that you will want to stop eating the extra desserts or at least  try the sugar free options. You will also want to make sure that you are  cutting back on the amount of pop that you drink, as that is where a  lot of people are getting the excess sugar. Even if you eat healthy,  drinking too much pop can lead to diabetes.</p>
<p>You will also want to make sure that you are starting an exercise  routine. Even if you are simply exercising for ten minutes a day, this  is much better than nothing. If you are currently overweight, you will  notice that by simply cutting the extra sugar from your diet and by  exercising a little, you will begin to lose some weight. Maintaining a  healthy weight is very important in making sure that you keep your risk  of diabetes in line.</p>
<p>Do not worry about having to sign up for expensive gym memberships. You  could simply jog in place or take a walk around a couple of blocks.  Another tip is to make sure that you are not eating while you watch  television. This is because you do not recognize that you are full when  your eyes are glued to the television screen.</p>
<p>Making just a few simple adjustments in your lifestyle will bring you to  a point where you are less likely to develop diabetes. If you already  have the disease, it is important to remember that with proper diet and  exercise, you can get it under control and possibly even eliminate it  all together.</p>

<p>Many  people feel that  there is simply not enough time to stay healthy.  While you may have a  very busy schedule, with a little research, you  will find that there are  little improvements that you can make which  can make a world of  difference in your health.</p>
<p>The  first thing that you will want to do is  to make sure that you are  making time for exercise, even if it is only  for thirty minutes a day.  If you honestly believe that you do not have  enough time for exercise  after work, you could always exercise on your  lunch break. For those  who have an hour to eat, try using part of that  time to walk around the  outside of the office. If this is not possible  for you, there is the  option of setting your alarm clock a half hour  earlier so you can work  out before you get ready for the day.</p>
<p>Another  thing to do is  to drink more water throughout the day. Many people  complain that they  cannot deal with the lack of flavor in their drinks.  For this, there are  sugar free powdered flavors that can be added to  the water. Start to  drink at least eight glasses of water each day.  Also limit the amount of  coffee and cola that you drink.</p>
<p>Eat  a salad with every dinner. Make sure that  your salad is as colorful as  possible. The more colors there are in  your salad, the healthier it is  for you. Use fat free dressing or just a  little vinegar for extra  flavoring. Take a vitamin supplement as well  so that you always know  that you are getting all of the nutrients you  need.</p>
<p>As  you can see, you  only have to make a few adjustments in order to put  your life back on a  healthy track. Just take it one day at a time and  before you know it,  you will feel uneasy if you go a day without your  new healthy habits.</p>

Adults will give any and every reason or excuse in the book to skip out  on medical appointments. Whether it is for the dentist, the eye doctor  or a family doctor, many adults feel that it is a waste of money to go.</p>
<p>While it may be true that you have to spend a little money to be seen by  a doctor, it might actually cost you more money to not go. Think about  it for a minute. You have something going wrong with you. You feel pains  in your stomach. You decide to ignore the pain in order to save time  and money and simply hope that it is nothing and will go away on its  own.</p>
<p>Eventually, that pain could grow worse and you could end up in the  hospital for something that could have been previously solved by a  simple trip to the doctors office. Many times, the biggest expense in  medicine comes from people who are avoiding getting routine check ups  and are ignoring symptoms of problems when they first start.</p>
<p>As you can see, it would simply be smarter to make sure that you are  going to the doctors when needed. Even if you are in perfect health, as  far as you know, you will want to make sure that you are going for a  yearly checkup. This way, you will always know whether your blood  pressure, your weight and your breathing is fine, along with many other  things. Check ups at the doctor&#8217;s office is not a scam and it is  something that you should no longer put off.</p>

<p>Going to the eye doctors every year is something that most people do not  miss out on when it comes to their children. The problem is though,  that many adults are not taking the time to make sure that they are  getting eye exams every year. While it is true that such exams are  crucial for children, they are even more important for adults. It is the  adults driving the cars and working jobs that could be life threatening  if something simple goes wrong.</p>
<p>Eye sight changes can happen quickly, but generally, it is a slow  process. In fact, your change in eye sight could happen so slow, that  you do not even notice a difference. Sitting there now, you might think  that your eye sight is fine because things look just how you remember  them. However, many people find that upon their trip to the eye doctor,  that they actually were not seeing things as clearly as they once  thought. This surprises many people.</p>

In fact, there have been case  studies that have linked some vaccines to Autism in children. Many  believe it is the mercury in the vaccines that cause children to have a  wide variety of problems. Some people may not have read all of the case  studies but have linked the fact that since there was an increase in  vaccinations, there has been an increase of children with Autism, ADD,  ADHD, depression and bi-polar.</p>
<p>However, there are those that will argue that there has not actually  been an increase in problems, it is just that the medical field is now  more advanced and is diagnosing patients better. In the end, you will  find that there is no conclusive study either way on whether or not you  should allow your children to have the vaccines. The choice is yours.</p>

The frustrating thing is that you will come to a point  where you find a lot of conflicting information. All you will be able  to do with this information is to think about all of the things that you  have learned and decide which side of the fence you are leaning  towards.</p>
<p>There is no right or wrong answer when it comes to deciding whether or  not your child should receive vaccinations. You have to do what you feel  is right for your child and what is right for your family as a whole.  Make your decision and do not allow anyone to deter you, no matter which  direction you picked. <p>Sometimes, if your sugar were to drop too low, you might find yourself  fainting in the middle of the grocery store. You could completely black  out and hit the floor. Besides having too low of sugar, this could  present other problems such as getting a concussion or breaking bones.</p>
<p>Many people who have diabetes are not able to manage the disease with  diet alone. They have to be placed on medication. This can get expensive  and a little frustrating after a while. Those who are severely  overweight can also experience diabetic neuropathy. This is where the  nerves in your feet start to die. It is not a reversible condition. If  the diabetes and weight problem can get under control, the damage to the  nerves can stop, but the dead nerves will not grow back.</p>
<p>With the diabetic neuropathy, you could eventually end up loosing your  feet and maybe even the lower portion of your legs. This is why it is so  important to make sure that you are as healthy as possible. As you can  see, there are many reasons to make sure that you are taking any  medications or insulin you are given and that you are staying on a  healthy diet.</p>
<p>To help reduce your chances of experiencing a lot of complications from  the diabetes, you will want to also get started on an exercise program.  Even if you are only working out three days a week, for an hour each  day, this is probably better than the amount of exercise that you are  getting now. The sooner you take action to protect your health, the  better off you will be.</p>

<p>People tend to wait until the last minute to start actively looking to  lose weight. For example, a women might wait until a month before a  wedding or vacation and decide that she really needs to lose twenty  pounds. If you were to find a diet that could do that for you, you are  actually doing yourself a disservice. In the end, you will find that you  have not only put your overall health at risk, but that you will have  gained back all of the weight you lost, plus additional weight on top of  it.</p>
<p>When you start a crash diet, you will find that you will become  lethargic and extremely irritable. You will experience a lot of cravings  that will make you extremely frustrated. A crash diet basically sends  your body into a complete shock and you will not have enough minerals  and vitamins to stay as healthy as you should be.</p>
<p>Some people could care less about whether or not they are healthy. All  they want is the results they have in mind and they do not care how they  get it. Think about it though. If your desire is to lose weight and  look great, you are not going to get that with a crash diet. Once you  start eating again, your body will retain as much as possible. This is  because you taught your body that you like starving it so it is going to  store food like there is no tomorrow. The end result is additional  weight gain. How does this get you anywhere near your goal?</p>
<p>Even though it may be tempting to go on a crash diet, you are only  setting yourself further back from your ultimate goal. Do not do this to  yourself. Instead, you will want to make sure that you are putting  together a healthy diet plan, drinking plenty of water, taking vitamin  supplements and getting regular exercise. The less thought you have to  put into your diet, the less likely it is to work for you.</p>

<p>There is no doubt that America is in a time where there are more obese  children than ever before. This is partly because parents are working  more and not putting enough time into making sure that their children  exercise. Also, you will find that many families feel as though they do  not have any other choice than to order fast food or take out whenever  their schedules are busy or they are tired.</p>
<p>The first thing you need to do is to throw out the junk food and start  cooking healthy meals for your family. Do not allow yourself to use the  excuse of not having enough time. If you have the time to schedule  everything else in, you should be able to schedule in a time for your  family to eat a healthy meal together.</p>
<p>Now, when it comes to exercise, you might find that your children are  going to be a little resistant, especially if you do not approach it the  right way. The best way to get started would be to simply go outside  with your children and play in the yard. Play fetch, hide-n-seek or  simply go for a little nature walk. The goal is to get your kids outside  and make sure that you are doing something fun. They will be  exercising, without even realizing that it is what they are doing.</p>
<p>Also, make sure that you are starting an exercise routine of your own.  The children will see you exercising and they will eventually begin to  mimic your good habits. They will also just as easily mimic your bad  habits to make sure that you are watching what you do and say carefully.  It might take a while before your kids will start to get out there and  exercise on their own, but it will happen eventually.</p>

Of course,  kids tend to favor the things that are not so healthy for them. In some  cases, a child would rather go without than eat anything other than some  sort of cheesy pasta or chicken nuggets. A diet full of the wrong foods  certainly is not going to do anyone any good.</p>
<p>Your goal as a parent is to make sure that your children are getting the  very best when it comes to the foods that they eat. You have already  tried begging, pleading and maybe even bribing. What you need to do is  to get the children involved. When they are involved in the process of  preparing the snacks and meals, they are more likely to eat it. It will  be after all, their creation-not yours.</p>
<p>If you are having trouble getting started, you will want to pick up a  children&#8217;s cookbook. Start with something simple such as an afternoon  snack. There are plenty of options within cookbooks designed for  children. Allow your child to make their own selection and allow them to  take control of making it. For bigger meals, you are going to have to  give more help, but make sure that the child is still involved in the  preparation and the cooking process.</p>
<p>Make sure that you are giving plenty of praise and that everyone in the  house is trying the creations your children pulled together. Before you  know it, your child will start to realize that there are a lot of  different foods that taste good and he or she will be more open to  trying something you make for them. The sooner you get started, the  sooner your child will have an easier time at the dinner time.</p>

<p>Many young people are taught about sexual transmitted diseases. They are probably the most informed when it comes to the present dangers out there. Believe it or not, there are new diseases that have been discovered and contracted that many older generations are not aware of. This is because everyone concentrates on educating the younger generation. Let&#8217;s face it though, the older generations are participating in consensual sexual relationships as well.  The only surefire way to not get a sexually transmitted disease is to refrain from sexual intercourse all together. Once you begin having sex, you are at risk. Now, it would be advisable that every time you start with a new partner, the two of you go get tested for diseases. Not everyone seems to want to do that though. Using a male and female condom is the next best thing for making sure that you are safe from diseases.  The last thing you want to do is to throw caution to the wind and go without any sort of planning, testing or protection. It will not be all that romantic once you contract an ugly disease. You want to make sure that you are being as safe as possible, not just for yourself, but for your partner as well.  If you are not in a stable relationship or having intercourse with the same partner all of the time, you will want to make sure that you are at least getting yourself tested for STD&#8217;s every six months. This is because something you contracted a month ago, might not show up on this month&#8217;s STD test. This is why people are advised to be tested every six months.  As you can see, there is a lot of responsibility on your shoulders. That is never going to change. You have to make sure that you are staying as healthy as possible and that is going to be through prevention. Not all sexually transmitted diseases are curable.</p>

Whether  you reach out to your doctor, or head straight for <a href="http://www.rehab-international.org/" target="_blank">drug rehab</a>, admitting that you have a problem and seeking help for it is an important thing to do.</p>
<p>Most,  if not all, drugs come with some very serious side effects. When these  drugs are abused, these side effects are amplified and can lead to  bigger issues. With alcohol abuse, the most common problem is liver  disease. Abusing alcohol can also lead to mental health issues, such as  depression and anxiety. Memory loss is another side effect of drinking  too much alcohol. Prescription drug abuse can cause many of these same  problems. Overdose of prescription medication can lead to  hospitalization or even death. The side effects of illicit drug use  vary, but can include anything from anxiety and hallucinations to heart  attack, strokes and cancer.</p>
<p>There are many things that may lead  you to believe that a loved one is abusing a drug. If their personality  changes significantly and there is no cause, drugs may be the cause. A  drop in performance at work can also be an indicator. A refusal to see a  doctor may be another sign, as the person may be worried the doctor  will uncover the abuse. Unfortunately, there are no tried and true ways  to know that someone is abusing drugs. Many times, it is a feeling that a  loved one has.</p>
<p>Talking to a doctor if you are abusing drugs of  any sort is a step in the right direction. They will be able to keep an  eye out for any health issues caused by the drug use, and they can help  you get help to quit.</p>

<p>Doctors, teachers and television programmers have made it clear that  parents need to get their children vaccinated. The thing is though, you  do not have to do this. It wouldn&#8217;t even mean that you are a bad parent.  What it means is that you are exercising your right to raise and care  for your child in the best way you know how.</p>
<p>Some people will skip out on the vaccines because of recent research  that they believe shows that the vaccines do more harm than good. Others  simply have religious beliefs that prevent them from getting such  medical treatment. No matter what your reason is, remember that you have  the right to not get your children vaccinated.</p>
<p>Of course, you want to make sure that you becoming well educated on the  subject. This way, your decision will be made with facts, instead of  feelings. Religious purposes are different though. Another thing that  you want to be prepared for is all of the looks and the questions that  you are bound to receive.</p>
<p>There is a good chance that your friends and family will not understand  your desire to not vaccinate your children. Make sure that you answer  their questions so that they too can become educated on the subject and  so that they do not worry about the kids. Of course, you do not have to  take accusations or harassment so make sure that you are keeping the  conversations about vaccinations simple and to the point. This will help  you to avoid a heated debate.</p>
<p>Now, the school will ask for proof of vaccinations. If your children are  not vaccinated, you have to state your reason for this. Stating it is a  religious preference usually gets the school to back down. Remember, if  at any time you change your mind, you can always go to get your  children vaccinated later down the road.</p>

<p>There is a small epidemic slithering through your workplace. It&#8217;s claimed men, women and managers without distinction or concern. The symptoms are well known, explained weakly over phone calls, typed lazily in private messages (fevers, it seems, destroy all need for grammar or coherency). It’s jumping from cubicle to cubicle; and your row is next. All of your compatriots are beginning to hoard tissues and calcium.</p>
<p>You, however, are not.</p>
<p>Because you’ve already taken all the necessary steps to protect yourself. Those last minute desperations are not worthy of your time.</p>
<p>Health is not a game of chance. It&#8217;s not determined by simple fate. While genetics and environment may dictate the major elements of your life, the little moments (such as the all too common office flu) can be instead determined by you. Self-care reigns supreme.</p>
<p>To prepare for any season&#8211;and keep yourself from suffering the indignity of coughs and headaches&#8211;you know you must keep your body physically fit and so you do what you must:</p>
<p>1. Exercise. It’s the most obvious suggestion and the one too often ignored; but exercising is essential to maintain good health. Devote at least one hour a day to movement. Challenge yourself beyond reaching for the remote. This is the best way to expand years and keep illnesses at bay.</p>
<p>2. Nutrition. That last piece of cake is tempting. It&#8217;s not, however, sensible. Understand that you need more than the indulgence of sweets. Offer yourself a well-rounded menu throughout the day. Choose vitamin-rich foods and refuse the ease of calories. Substitute healthy snacks for your typical fare and choose wiser alternatives.</p>
<p>3. Hygiene. There was a time when water was considered a vice and skin was to be kept earth-soaked. Now, however, such times are gone. This is a change you must embrace fully. Wash your hands; prevent cross-contamination; disinfect surfaces. Keep yourself (and your home) in proper order.</p>
<p>Self-care is not a tedious thing. It’s mere common sense. Understand that you must protect yourself by doing more than relying on luck. You must instead work for your health (and then reap the rewards).</p>

<p>It&#8217;s happening again: you&#8217;re shifting against the sheets, curling tight and then stretching out. You struggle for an angle that will please but find only frustration. The bed seems too hard; the pillow seems too shallow; and the air has gone stale with desperation. You can&#8217;t sleep. You try all the little tricks you remember from youth (pacing the floor, reading a book, drinking the horror that is warm milk) but they fail. And the hours slip slowly on, leading you finally into morning.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s going to be a long day.</p>
<p>This scenario is unfortunately common. The stress of ordinary obligations will force most individuals to experience nights of poor rest and long minutes. Just because this is suffered by the majority, however, does not mean you should simply accept it.</p>
<p>A loss of sleep is no less dangerous because it&#8217;s easily recognized. It&#8217;s instead an illness that can interfere with every aspect of your life. Without a (minimal) of seven solid hours, you will see a decrease in alertness and memory, an increase in stress and a heightened chance of injury. Your body will not function correctly; and these issues will feed into each other, creating a myriad of problems.</p>
<p>This is why it&#8217;s vital for you to discover the reasons for your lack of sleep. While the occasional rough-night is not of great concern, a repeating pattern is. If each week finds you restless, then you must make a change:</p>
<p>1. Determine stressors. Your family situation, your career: these can stir your thoughts and leave you unable to do more than think. Resolve the issues as quickly as possible to undo their damage.</p>
<p>2. Change habits. A too late meal, scrambling to finish assignments: allowing yourself distractions in the evening can force your body awake. Allow yourself to move gradually toward sleep, rather than simply declaring yourself ready.</p>
<p>3. Consult your doctor. If symptoms persist, then you must seek help. Don&#8217;t dismiss this as ordinary. The risks are high and the problem may be linked to other illnesses.</p>
<p>You must sleep but you first must learn how to sleep well.</p>

<p>You are not a worrier. You take pride instead in understanding the differences between the common cold and genuine illness. You do not panic at the first flush of a fever. You do not scramble toward the hospital when a cough suddenly appears. Your choices are deliberate and your responses are calm&#8230;. except when it comes to your children. When they offer a less than happy stare, you’re instantly prepared to consult every doctor in town.</p>
<p>This is, naturally, not sensible. You know that you can’t race to the emergency room for every scrapped knee and snuffle. There have to be boundaries. There have to be rules. And the knowledge that children attract illness as easily as mischief must be understood. Your son or daughter will one day be sick. That is not a question. The answer, however, may depend on the symptoms they offer.</p>
<p>There are warning signs all parents should learn to recognize. These represent potential problems that warrant seeing a doctor:</p>
<p>1. Fever. All children are susceptible to flushed cheeks and hot temples. You must be wary, however, if the temperature continues to climb. If a thermometer reads 102 (or above), seek out assistance immediately. Do not wait.</p>
<p>2. Sore throats. The strains of laughter or tantrums can agitate any throat. Should those agitations become persistent, however, then you should consult a physician. This can suggest possible infections or other illnesses.</p>
<p>3. Breathing abnormalities. All children become winded after hours of playing. Not all children, however, remain winded. Watch your son or daughter carefully to monitor how long it takes them to recover and if they suffer from gasping, coughing or other breathing difficulties.</p>
<p>4. Sleep loss. Nightmares are common and can force any child to have the occasional bad night. If your child is suffering from frequent sleep disruption, however, than the cause may be a greater problem&#8211;whether psychical or emotional. Help is needed.</p>
<p>Illness is a certainty for children. The severity of that illness, however, depends on how early it is caught. Look for these symptoms and understand their importance.</p>

<p>It’s the terrible temptation: you stand at the refrigerator, staring at its contents. There are shelves filled to sweet dangers, the foods you must not have but still want. You’re trying desperately to lose weight, wishing to improve the image that peers back at you each morning (it always looks so disgruntled). You want a better appearance and better health. The process, however, has not been easy. Your hours are spent hungry, with only occasional meals to satisfy. You want more than your diet allows, but you can’t risk the effects of indulgence. So instead you simply peer at all the things you can’t have and then discontentedly settle for an ice cube.</p>
<p>This assumption plagues too many individuals. A diet is believed to be a tedium, with all foods denied. It’s not. There are instead several delicious (and filling) items to sample&#8211;ones that won’t cause a sagging waistline or a guilty conscious. They will instead inspire weight loss and good health.</p>
<p>1. Peppers. For those craving flavor, hot peppers will offer everything you need&#8230; and more. Choosing these helps to stimulate the metabolism; which then increases energy. This allows exercise regimes to be extended and calories to burn away more efficiently.</p>
<p>2. Apples. You’re familiar with the cliches, the oft-sang platitudes. But apples truly do keep the doctor away. They’re laced with a mineral called Pectin, which acts as a buffer between fat cells and reduces the amounts absorbed. This helps to keep you satisfied without taking in more calories.</p>
<p>3. Citrus fruits. You may think the sharp taste of oranges (and its many siblings) is not for you. It should be. Citrus fruits help to dilute fat, allowing you to eat without worrying. They also help to increase a sluggish metabolism, provide energy and defend against the common cold.</p>
<p>It must be explained, though, that these foods are not to be eaten in excess. While they offer obvious advantages, they should still be taken in moderation; as all items should. They do not offer the freedom to indulge. They instead offer the satisfaction of being healthy (and full).</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Does the American population seem to be getting fatter and fatter? It  is. Today, 66% of Americans are either overweight or obese. At the  current rate of increase in obesity, 100% of Americans will be obese by  2048. That 100% prediction is not too far off in the future.</p>
<p>With  a dangerous health issue of such magnitude, it is easy to sit back and  take a “laissez faire” attitude, but clearly, a more proactive approach  is needed. Americans can no longer afford to look for easy answers or  quick fixes. With so much contradictory information available about  weight loss, it can be hard to decide on the best course of action.</p>
<p>More  and more, people blame weight gain on genetics instead of lack of  discipline with diet and exercise. Because the pharmaceutical industry  aims to make as much money as quickly and easily as it can, it invents  new “medications” to help those who believe they are “genetically  predisposed” to be overweight.</p>
<p>Don’t fall for the hoax. The same  industry that is ready to take your money for weight-reduction pills is  the same industry that designs the chemicals in the foods you eat. It is  a profitable circle of destruction. As foods are engineered to be more  enticing—foods that you can’t stop yourself from eating as the food  itself truly becomes an addiction, exactly like drugs and alcohol—have  no doubt that a “medication” will be made available to help you control  your weight problem.</p>
<p>You could have better luck managing your weight by checking yourself into an <a href="http://www.michaelshouse.com/alcohol-rehab/">alcohol rehab program</a> and asking to be fed only whole, organic foods. What could it hurt? The  alternative is a never-ending cycle of dependence, a lifetime of  genetically modified foods, diet pills, and the psychological nightmare  of obesity.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Many societies believed that simply eating less would make the  difference when trying to lose a few pounds. In other cultures, women  were fed large amounts of specific foods like fruits and meats for the  specific purpose of gaining weight. Methods like drinking nothing but  milk before marriage in order to gain weight for fertility (like tribes  in Uganda practice) help women to gain weight, but in the United States,  famously slender women pose for milk ads proclaiming that the mostly  protein content of the drink helps to keep body weight low.</p>
<p>So  when different societies do the same thing with opposing intentions and  both see evidence to support their beliefs, who is right? Some places  eat nothing but fish and rice while others eat fatty pork, oils, and  starches like corn. Some societies eat avocados and other fruits with  abandon and appear thin and agile, while their societies hold records  for high levels of longevity. Others, like France, smoke, eat fatty  cheeses, and drink several times per day while achieving the same or  very close levels of very low mortality rates. So when many different  people make completely contradictory choices while receiving the same  benefits, who is right? And is there a “right choice”?</p>
<p>With  many different diet fads throughout the centuries but particularly in  the last century, picking them apart for commonalities will make one  crazy. They are completely contradictory and yet there are many people  for each method who will attest to their efficacy and many (often many  more) who will attest to the fact that they are flukes.</p>
<p>The  ancient and yet newly discovered thought (brought to the forefront of  female thinking by such books as “Women, Food and God” by Geneen Roth  and predicated by Deepak Chopra’s “Perfect Weight” indicate that our  bodies know what’s best and imbibing (or over-imbibing) in substances is  a result of emotion and not physical hunger. The argument is made that  when listening to one’s instincts, perfect nutrition is achieved and  when ignored, eating is one of many routes to drowning out our perfect,  human instincts. It is food for thought.</p>

When faced with a serious injury or disease, the  emergency room at your nearest, local hospital is the first place you  should head. When dealing with a chronic condition that verges on  serious (or even if it is a newer situation too), visiting a doctor  quickly should be a top priority. However, many people employ those  services very frequently when it is obviously not necessary to do so, at  least until some simpler, more accessible, and more economical  treatments have been tried. Again, if there is a serious, or persistent   situation present, medical care should be sought as quickly as  possible.</p>
<p>For very minor burns, there is a treatment  recommended by many cooks and restaurant staff that may help you get  back on your feet quickly. Applying some salt (and perhaps a tiny amount  of water first so the salt will stick) to the burn and then tightly  winding it with a band aid has been reported to heal burns quickly  without a blister rising. It is best to run the burn under cool water  for several minutes first. Salt can also work on itchy ant bites. When  the wound is open, use very clean hands to apply salt to it and then  wrap it up. The theory is that the salt disinfects the affected area  while drawing out the irritating substances.</p>
<p>Pastes made from  sugar or honey are great on cuts, particularly ones that are in danger  of becoming infected. Sugars and honey have been used world wide as  traditional medicines in many different cultures. They also help prevent  scarring.</p>
<p>Apple cider vinegar is great when you have been  having issues with heartburn. If you have been dealing with a toothache  or gum irritation but can’t get into the dentist for a few days, swish  3% hydrogen peroxide. It will help oxygenate the areas that are  irritated. Some specialists say to dilute it in half with water while  others say undiluted 3% strength is fine. Be sure to check the label as  anything stronger could be very dangerous.</p>

<p>Starting in 2007, the financial health of the United  States deteriorated. More people foreclosed on their homes than in the  previous years. Several of these families had to file bankruptcy. Some circumstances are beyond a  person&#8217;s control, but ultimately financial health is in one&#8217;s own hands. <p>How involved are family members in making financial  decisions? Take advantage of teachable moments by letting kids help make  decisions that affect them.</p>
<p>Simply being aware that their habits  are shaping how future generations interact with money can help parents  improve their own financial health.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Breast milk has been the sole source of sustenance for infants  throughout the vast majority of history. When women had difficulty with  breast feeding or if a mother had passed away, the mortality rate for  babies became even higher. Throughout communities, many women would help  each other out and nurse children whose mothers could not for whatever  reasons. Many wealthy and upper class women in a multitude of societies  found breast feeding to be common and beneath them, and as such, they  hired full time wet nurses to feed their babies so they would not have  to.</p>
<p>Those were the main options available until the 20th  Century when baby formula was developed. Suddenly, there was a way to  feed infants without breastfeeding and it became very popular. In the  1950’s when breast feeding babies did not feed with the American ideal  standards of modern decorum, milk based formulas became much more norm  than the exception. Since then, the differences between children feed  breast milk and baby formula have been studied and compared and new  research is constantly being done on the amazing properties of breast  milk that were not known before.</p>
<p>Babies who are fed breast milk  receive their mother’s antibodies, meaning that if there is an illness  going around, the mother’s mature immune system will immediately begin  “cracking” the code to conquering the disease. The infant, with its  immature immunity, will receive that code through the breast milk of its  mother. Many families have reported that when a virus circulates, their  breastfed babies often fare better than any other family members,  sometimes not even getting sick at all.</p>
<p>Now, with the new  understanding that modern science is just beginning to acquire regarding  the sophisticated makeup of breast milk, it is becoming a much bigger  priority to promote breastfeeding to the American culture. Many people  still feel an aversion to the idea and formula use is still the  predominant method of infant feeding. Of course, in situations where  breastfeeding is not a viable option, formula is a good fallback to have  to ensure that infants have some form of nutrition.</p>

<p>With the high protein, low carbohydrate fads of the last several years,  many people’s moods took a huge dive with their decrease in carbs.  While simple carbohydrates like foods made with enriched flour and sugar  can give you a quick, jittery boost, they come with a faster crash soon  afterwards, making you feel even worse than before you went scrounging  for  that pick me up. Eating more nutrient dense carbohydrates (like  whole grain breads and pastas) in conjunction with lean proteins  (especially those high in mood boosting tryptophan like turkey and dairy  products), you can get a solid spike in not only mood, but energy that  will carry you over for many hours.</p>
<p>Many people know that  omega fatty acids are good for you and they may even know that they are  good for your heart health, but most people do not know that omega 3  fatty acids high in DHA can make you feel significantly more happy.  Countries with diets high in fish have reported overall levels of  depression and sadness that are much lower than the rest of the world.  Sardines, anchovies, and salmon are good for starters but there are also  vegan sources as well, such as leafy, dark green vegetables, and flax  seeds.</p>
<p>If you tend to feel a slump in the afternoon, try a  banana. Bananas are an amazing super food loaded with mood and energy  raising B vitamins as well as the aforementioned tryptophan. It is a  complex carbohydrate so you will get that sugar boost but with fiber and  vitamins that will keep your mood high. With bananas, you won’t suffer  the same crash that your fickle candy bar delivers.</p>

People who are married report as a  whole, that despite the stressors that relationships can bring, they  still have higher levels of happiness than those who are not in long  term, committed relationships. Being in a relationship is usually good  for you but because it can be stressful, it can be a bit like taking  three steps forward and falling one step back. If you can improve the  health of your relationship, you can eliminate the stressors that many  people experience with their loved ones, thus reaping a broader spectrum  of benefits.</p>
<p>When having an argument with one another, many  people in couples resort to ad hominem or personal attacks towards their  partner rather than providing constructive input. Saying, “You’re an  idiot!” rather than, “I disagree with your decision for this reason . . .  .” puts the other person on the defense, making them more concerned  about self protection and focusing on barbs they can hurl at you. If you  want to be truly heard, attacking the other person will ensure that  your complaints will not be heard at all, much less understood and  sympathized with. Most people get angry when they experience feelings of  frustration, pain, or sadness that they cannot immediately process.  Making your partner angry escalates the argument without resolving  anything and creates a much more stressful situation. This simple  awareness alone can transform many stressful relationships into happier,  more understanding ones.</p>
<p>Another issue that many couples  struggle with is the need to be right or to win. Often, when an argument  is taking place, the person who is loudest and most intimidating (with  words, volume, or threatening physical presence) “wins” the argument,  but in such situations, both people lose. Bullying someone into  concession does not create feelings of harmony and closeness and is as  such, detrimental to the health of a relationship. Finding ways to  validate both members (which is almost always possible with a little  practice), makes both people feel valued and loved, which strengthens  their bond.</p>
