Yes, they can be. Depending on the country in which the prescription medications were manufactured, there can be several differences in the dosages (pills, liquid form, capsule, etc.), as well as how much of the active ingredient is used in the medication as well as the strength of said drug.

Another concern involving prescription medications that are manufactured elsewhere in the world include how the drug is stored before it is sold. If a drug is stored at too cold or too hot a temperature, the drug’s effectiveness can be reduced. It is also possible for the drug to break down as a result of extreme temperature. This can cause a danger from possible chemical reactions.

Many people who are reading this article may be purchasing their drugs from Canada, Mexico, or another foreign country, or are considering doing so because of the increasing cost of prescription medications in the United States. It is known that inability to afford one’s prescriptions is in itself a health hazard, as some people are not taking the medications they sorely need, thus making the condition for which they are being treated worse. However, the risk of getting prescription medications from other sources can be equally, if not more, dangerous that not taking them at all.

If you have purchased drugs from a foreign country or are considering doing so, you should be honest and discuss this with your health care professional. If you have already received drugs from a foreign supplier, take them with you on your next visit and let the physician examine them.

Talk to him also about programs that allow prescription medications costs to be reduced, as well as other options for affording the medications you need. After all, the idea is to get well, not make your condition worse–which can happen with foreign prescription medications.

It still seems that there are a lot of people who tend to think that depression is not something you openly talk about with other people. You need to remember something. This is not a condition that you need to be embarrassed about. You did not cause it. However, you are the person that can get rid of it or at least get the symptoms under control. Of course, you are going to need a little outside help for that.

If your depression is mild, you have some time to play about with home remedies and therapy, without the use of medication. There are a lot of self help books and church leaders that may have some great tips and advice for you. Now, if you are using herbal remedies or over the counter medications, you want to make sure that they are not going to interact badly with any medication that you are already taking.

For those who are suffering from severe depression, it is important to make sure that quick medical attention is sought. You have the choice of contacting a primary care doctor and setting an appointment or you can go directly to the emergency room and check yourself in to the mental health ward. The route you take should depend on how bad your symptoms are. If you have had or are currently having thoughts of suicide, then you want to go directly to the emergency room. Call 911 if you have to.

The sooner you get help for the depression, the sooner you will feel like you are your old self again. If you do end up with medication, make sure that you are taking it responsibly. The last thing you want to do is to mess with your body or chemical balances any more. Also, do not worry about the medication or how long you will have to be on it. Some will be on medication for only a few months while others need a few years. Everyone is different.

People implicitly trust their doctors partly because they often feel a sense of inferiority when communicating with them. Many feel that since they don’t have the same training, they aren’t qualified to challenge the findings of their physician. Many physicians encourage this dynamic for egotistical reasons and those are probably not the type of doctors your want to be working with. You are responsible for your treatment and what road you choose and it is easier than ever to educate yourself with the easy access to the Internet. Since you are going to live with the outcome, you need to be in the driver’s seat when it comes to your medical care.

Do you wonder about the latest prescription and whether your doctor recommended it because they had thought it fit you and your current condition best? Did you ever wonder that they may have prescribed it because the pharmaceutical companies sent them paper pads with the name of the drug on it and it came first to mind? These are questions to ask yourself when considering who you are going to employ as your doctor. Studies have shown that when presented with a difficult diagnosis, an optimistic and seemingly knowledgeable physician gives much more reassurance to the patient and their loved ones which translates to higher positive results. Those who are pessimistic and prescribe drastic treatments while scoffing at other possible methods have much more depressed patients who don’t fare as well. When presented with a trying situation, do not be afraid to get two, three, or even twenty opinions. Many doctors will have very different interpretations of situations and recommend very different treatment options. You want the one that is best for you.

When it comes to medical care, trust your instincts and don’t be intimidated. If you have a good feeling about a doctor, that should be strongly considered when determining who you decide to trust. You are in the driver’s seat of your own life so take the reigns and take control of what is happening. It will, at the very least, help calm your fear.

Millions of Americans rely on prescription drugs to keep their bodies healthy and well. The cost of prescription medications has gone through the roof lately, and many suspect it will continue to climb. Some manufacturers have raised medication costs to offset lost income due to the recession. While it seems a vicious cycle, there is light at the end of the tunnel. By following a few pointers, you can get the prescriptions you need for free or for a much lower price.

At your next doctor’s visit, ask for free samples of your current and any new medications. When your doctor writes a prescription, ask him to allow for a generic medication in place of a name-brand one. Often times, generic products will cost you considerably less and work just as well. Some physicians and clinics have financial assistance programs to help you obtain the medications you need.

Many drug manufacturers offer programs to help patients who were laid off or who don’t have medical insurance with free prescriptions for up to a year. Pfizer offers some of its most commonly prescribed medications like Lipitor, Lyrica, Viagra, and Celebrex on its program. You must apply for the programs, and the company may ask for proof of employment termination, insurance availability, or income, dependent upon which business you work with. Manufacturer programs don’t usually apply to new prescriptions and are no longer in effect if you start getting health insurance coverage.

Some retailers offer a large amount of generic drugs for a very low amount. You can find prescriptions as low as $4. Check with your local pharmacies, even locally-owned, smaller pharmacies, as they may be competing with national retail programs, reducing the cost of some medications. When you do a little extra work, you can get the medications you need without breaking the bank.
